To Ombogo! July 19, 2009

The girls from Ombogo came in the school bus to pick us up. They wouldn't let us carry the luggage, dragging each bag to the bus to load it in. Then they wrangled with each other for the chance to sit next to one of the muzungus (foreigners), perhaps for the chance to practice their English skills. A long bumpy ride - three hours on mostly rutted red dirt roads - so there was plenty of time to talk.

The roads are so dusty from the months of drought, that Maureen Okundi (the Director of the school sitting next to Kristi in the car) brought dust masks for us to wear. We looked funny, but at least it kept the dust out of our lungs as we bounced along.
